The method
Five decisions, none of them dials
There is nothing to tune here — no weights, no thresholds, no commissioner settings. What there is instead is five choices, each of which somebody could reasonably have made differently.
- The question
- Who is actually good right now?
- How it is scored
- For every week still to be played, each roster's best possible lineup is scored, those totals are added up, and the league is indexed so the strongest roster reads 100.
- Best lineup, not whole roster
- Best lineup rather than whole roster, because depth at a position you can only start one of is not strength.
- How fresh the roster is
- The roster is the most recent week the archive has lineups for — not a live one. The archive is only ever as fresh as the last sync, and a page that pretended otherwise would be lying about a waiver claim processed this morning.
- Against the standings
- Standings rank minus power rank is the interesting column: positive means the roster is better than the record, which is a team on the way up.
